Paleo Marinara Sauce

We received a lot of messages today after the Paleo Chicken Parmesan posting, asking if we could post our Primos Marinara Sauce. Well here you go!

Primal Primos Marinara Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 Large onion (chopped)
  • 5 cloves garlic (chopped)
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 28oz tomatoes (crushed, peeled)
  • 6oz tomato paste
  • 7 cups water
  • 3 tablespoons italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 pinch crushed red pepper
  • salt
  • peper

Optional

  • 1/2 cup red wine

Directions

Step 1 In a large pot over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté onion, shallot and garlic until the onion becomes transparent.
Step 2 Next, add crushed tomatoes, water, tomato paste, seasonings, wine and honey.
Step 3 Reduce heat to low and allow to simmer for 3-4 hours, stirring occasionally.

Note

This marinara sauce is perfect for an all-day simmer in a crock pot if you don't want to use a pot.

Just a small correction in the recipe…Step 1 says to sauté the onion, shallot and garlic. There's no shallot mentioned in the ingredient list.

I tried it in the crockpot, but the liquid didn't reduce and the sauce was watery. Much better on the stove. I've made this several times, and it freezes well for later. Thank you for the recipe guys.

  5. i love this recipe…its my go to… i add celery and carrots with the onion and chunks of garlic…plus meatballs (raw) and let simmer all day… Its amazing!!!!
